Beneath a simple roof lies a tailored ease.
The homeowner wished for a house that felt ordinary and unassuming—nothing flashy or attention-seeking—but above all, comfortable. Comfort here means being able to read under a breezy roof with just a fan, sitting on a front porch next to the street and still feeling private, and freely decorating with personal items without disrupting the home’s harmony. It also means being able to host meetings without compromising personal space and easily switching between natural and air-conditioned ventilation.
The house began with a traditional hipped roof form, which was adapted to serve the functions and comfort the owner envisioned. The roof peels open at the center to allow wind to pass through, creating two courtyards for breathing room and daylight. Deep eaves provide privacy and sun shading, while the layout follows a gradient of privacy. Certain parts rise through the roofline to improve airflow, light, and spatial balance.
From the outside, it may look like a typical hipped-roof house—but inside, it’s a redefined comfort zone, reshaping the archetype to suit real living.
