สถาปัตยกรรมเป็นสิ่งคงทน แต่การใช้งานเป็นเรื่องชั่วคราว
อาคารชัยพัฒนสิน ตั้งอยู่ริมสะพานพิทยเสถียร บนถนนนเจริญกรุงมาเป็นเวลากว่า 100 ปี เริ่มต้นจากการเป็นโรงงานน้ำอัดลม ถูกเปลี่ยนมาเป็นโกดังรองเท้า Jump Master ก่อนจะถูกปรับปรุงให้กลายเป็นลานสเก็ตบอร์ดในร่มอย่าง Jump Master Skate Haus จน IF ได้มีโอกาสออกแบบรีโนเวทให้กลายมาเป็น The Corner House, Community Space ที่เป็นแหล่งรวมกิจกรรมทางด้านศิลปะวัฒนธรรมแห่งใหม่ ของย่านตลาดน้อย
จากการใช้งานเดิมที่ค่อนข้างปิด IF ได้ออกแบบอาคารให้รองรับการใช้งานระยะสั้น ( Event ) ที่จะผลัดเปลี่ยนหมุนเวียนมาจัดงานในพื้นที่ให้อาคารและชุมชนมีชีวิตชีวา และปรับเปลี่ยนไปตามยุคสมัยได้อย่างลื่นไหล ซึ่งตลอดระยะเวลาที่อาคารเปิดใช้งาน ได้มีงาน Event เข้ามาจัดในตึกนี้มากมาย รวมถึงงานใหญ่ประจำปีอย่าง Bangkok Design Week ด้วย
นอกเหนือจากพื้นที่สำหรับกิจกรรมชั่วคราวแล้ว อาคารยังมีพื้นที่ให้เช่าระยะยาวสำหรับธุรกิจต่างๆ เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป ร้านค้าและผู้ประกอบการค่อยๆ เข้ามาเติมเต็มพื้นที่ภายใน ทำให้อาคารกลายเป็นศูนย์รวมกิจกรรมที่หลากหลาย
สิ่งหนึ่งที่ IF ตื่นเต้นทุกครั้ง คือการได้เห็นอาคารที่เราออกแบบถูกใช้งานอย่างจริงจัง บางแห่งถูกใช้งานอย่างที่เราคิดไว้ บางแห่งก็ถูกนำมาใช้งานอย่างคาดไม่ถึง เหมือนอาคารแห่งนี้ที่รองรับการใช้งานที่เปลี่ยนไปของชาวตลาดน้อยมากว่า 100 ปี และ IF ก็ภูมิใจมากที่ได้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของมรดกทางสถาปัตยกรรมที่ยังคงมีชีวิตและเติบโตต่อไป

Architecture is enduring, but its use is temporary.
Chai Phatthanasilp Building has stood by the Phitthaya Sathian Bridge on Charoen Krung Road for over a century. It began as a soda factory before being repurposed into a Jump Master shoe warehouse. Later, it transformed into an indoor skate park, Jump Master Skate Haus, until IF had the opportunity to renovate it into The Corner House, a new community space dedicated to arts and culture in the Talat Noi district.
The building was initially enclosed and had limited use. IF’s redesign focused on making it adaptable for short-term events, allowing for a dynamic rotation of activities that keep the space and surrounding community vibrant. This flexibility ensures the building remains relevant through different eras. Since its reopening, it has hosted numerous events, including major annual festivals such as Bangkok Design Week.
Beyond event spaces, the building also offers long-term rental areas for businesses. Over time, various shops and entrepreneurs have gradually occupied different corners of the building, further enriching its character.
One of the most exciting aspects of IF’s work is seeing the spaces we design being actively used. Some function just as envisioned, while others take on unexpected roles. This building, which has adapted to the shifting needs of Talat Noi’s community for over a hundred years, is a testament to that fluidity. IF is honored to have contributed, in a small way, to its legacy.
