’หนังสือคู่มือบ้านที่ IF อยากทำมานาน‘

เวลาเราซื้อเครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้าสักเครื่องนึง ในกล่องที่ได้มา มักจะมีสิ่งที่เรียกว่าคู่มือ หรือ Manual แนบมาให้เป็นส่วนใหญ่ ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วยทั้งวิธีการใช้กับการดูแลรักษา

ในขณะเดียวกัน กับงานสถาปัตยกรรมที่ขนาดใหญ่กว่า หรือมีมูลค่าที่สูงกว่าอย่างมาก อย่างบ้านพักอาศัยที่เจ้าของต้องใช้เป็นประจำในทุกวันกลับไม่มีคู่มือวิธีใช้แนบมาให้เมื่อเจ้าของบ้านเริ่มเข้าใช้งาน

ด้วยไอเดียที่ว่า เราจึงพยายามหาโอกาสทำหนังสือคู่มือประกอบการใช้บ้านให้กับบ้านที่เราออกแบบอยู่นานสองนาน จนเมื่อปีกลายจึงสบโอกาสได้เริ่มโปรเจกต์กับบ้านหลังนึง

ในบ้านแต่ละหลังนั้น ด้วยรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิตของแต่ละครอบครัว ย่อมทำให้ได้ผลลัพธ์ของสถาปัตยกรรมที่ออกมาแตกต่างกัน

ดังนั้นเราจึงพิจารณาอยู่นาน ว่าหนังสือ “คู่มือบ้าน” ที่เหมาะสมในมุมมองของเรา ควรจะเป็นอย่างไร

ในช่วง Workshop กัน เราได้ key idea หลักๆออกมาหลายข้อที่คิดว่าเหมาะสมกับหนังสือเล่มนี้ เช่น

– เจ้าของบ้านต้อง “ได้ใช้งานจริง” และต้อง “เข้าใจง่าย” ไม่ใช่แค่ส่งแบบชุด As built ที่เจ้าของบ้านส่วนใหญ่ไม่สามารถดูรู้เรื่องได้

– เป็น Manual ที่เราประเมินว่าจะเป็นเนื้อหาที่นอกเหนือจากเรื่องทั่วๆไปที่ช่างรู้ เป็นข้อมูลที่เราในฐานะสถาปนิกรู้ เพื่อให้ลดข้อมูลเหลือเฉพาะที่จำเป็น และให้น้อยที่สุด

– เพิ่มส่วนแรกเป็นรวม journey ระหว่างเรากับเจ้าของบ้าน เป็นเสมือนของขวัญชิ้นเล็กๆ (แต่เต็มไปด้วยความตั้งใจจากเรา)

– ระหว่างความเป็น หนังสือ กับ digital file / platform เราเชื่อว่าทั้งคู่มีทั้งข้อดีและข้อจำกัดที่ต่างกัน เราจึงพยายามคิดถึงการใช้งานจริง ที่เจ้าของบ้านบางคนอาจจะไม่สะดวกในเรื่อง Digital Platform เลยเลือก Default Medium เป็นหนังสือ แต่ก็พยายามจัดเตรียมข้อมูลเพื่อให้สามารถ Migrate เข้าไปสู่ Digital Platform ที่สามารถดูข้อมูลได้เช่นกัน (Work-in-progress)

แม้หนังสือเล่มนี้ อาจจะยังไม่ได้สมบูรณ์นัก แต่ว่าสำหรับเราแล้ว ก็คิดว่าเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ดีที่จะทำให้ประสบการณ์การใช้ชีวิตใน “บ้าน” ของเจ้าของบ้านเป็นไปได้โดยราบรื่นมากขึ้น

แต่ถึงหนังสืออาจจะมีจุดบกพร่อง ยังไงเจ้าของบ้านก็ยังโทรหาเราได้เสมอครับ

‘A Home Manual That IF Has Wanted to Create for a Long Time’

When we purchase an electrical appliance, the package usually comes with a manual—a guide that explains how to use and maintain it.

Yet, when it comes to something much larger and far more valuable, like a home—where owners live and interact with the space daily—there is no such manual handed over when they move in.

With this thought in mind, we have long been looking for an opportunity to create a home manual for the houses we design. Last year, we finally got the chance to start this project with one particular home.

Every home is unique, shaped by the lifestyle of its residents, leading to distinct architectural outcomes. That’s why we spent considerable time contemplating what a “home manual” should be from our perspective.

During our workshops, we identified several key ideas that we felt would make this book meaningful:

• The manual must be practical and easy to understand for homeowners. It shouldn’t just be a set of As-Built drawings that most homeowners struggle to interpret.

• It should contain only essential information—details that an architect would know but a contractor might not—focusing only on what truly matters.

• The first section includes a journey of the house—a small yet heartfelt gift from us to the homeowners, documenting our shared experience.

• While balancing between a physical book and a digital platform, we acknowledge that both formats have their strengths and limitations. Since some homeowners may not be comfortable with digital platforms, we chose a book as the default medium. However, we are also preparing the information in a way that can be migrated to a digital format in the future. (Work-in-progress.)

This book may not be perfect yet, but for us, it is a great starting point—one that aims to make the experience of living in a home smoother and more enjoyable for its owners.

And even if the book has its flaws, the homeowners can always call us anytime
