การออกแบบโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ใจกลางทองหล่ออย่าง Arak Animal Hospital ที่มีเป้าหมายเป็นการบริการที่ครบครันและการสร้างบรรยากาศที่เป็นมิตรต่อทุกชีวิตที่ใช้งาน เป็นงานที่สนุกและท้าทายอย่างยิ่งสำหรับ IF เพราะนอกจากต้องจัดการกับการใช้งานที่หลากหลายทั้งพื้นที่รักษา, ฟื้นฟู และบริการเสริมอื่น ๆ แล้ว ยังต้องศึกษาและออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมที่เหมาะสมกับการรักษาร่างกายและจิตใจของสัตว์เลี้ยงอีกด้วย และนี่คือข้อค้นพบที่เราได้จากการตั้งคำถามและหาคำตอบให้กับการออกแบบโปรเจกต์นี้

เราพบว่า แสงธรรมชาติส่งผลต่อความรู้สึกสบายของสิ่งมีชีวิต เราจึงเลือกสร้าง Court บริเวณกลางไซต์เพื่อเปิดให้อาคารได้รับแสงธรรมชาติและระบายอากาศได้ดี อีกทั้งยังช่วยประหยัดการใช้พลังงานในอาคาร บริเวณกลาง Court ถูกสร้างเป็นสระว่ายน้ำสำหรับสัตว์เลี้ยง ให้ได้มาออกกำลังกายและสร้างบรรยากาศสนุกสนานแก่ผู้ที่ผ่านไปมา

เราพบว่า สัตว์เลี้ยงและเจ้าของที่เข้าใช้งานส่วนบริการเสริมอย่าง ร้านกาแฟ, Grooming และ Pet Hotel ต้องการสภาพแวดล้อมที่ต่างจากผู้ที่ใช้บริการส่วนรักษาและฟื้นฟู เราจึงแยกสองส่วนนี้ออกจากกันเพื่อสร้างสภาพแวดล้อมที่เหมาะสมกับการใช้งานของทั้งสองกลุ่ม

เราพบว่า ความสบายใจในการใช้งานอาคารเกิดขึ้นตั้งแต่แรกเห็น เราจึงทำทางเข้าโดยการคว้านอาคารเป็นทรงโค้งและกรุระแนงไม้สีนวลตาตลอดทั้งอาคารเพื่อให้อาคารดูเป็นมิตรกับผู้ใช้งาน

เราพบว่า สัตว์เลี้ยงจะสบายใจที่สุดเมื่อได้อยู่ใกล้ชิดกับเจ้าของ เราจึงออกแบบส่วนพักคอยเป็นที่นั่งพนักสูงกระจายตัวอยู่ทั่วพื้นที่ เพื่อสร้างความเป็นส่วนตัวให้สัตว์เลี้ยงรู้สึกใกล้ชิดกับเจ้าของมากขึ้น

เราพบว่า ห้องสี่เหลี่ยมผนังขาวทำให้ผู้ใช้งานรู้สึกอึดอัด เราจึงออกแบบผนังในอาคารเป็นผนังโค้ง ลบเหลี่ยมมุมที่ดูไม่สบายตา และใช้วัสดุหลักเป็นไม้สีอ่อนเพื่อเพิ่มความอบอุ่นเหมือนอยู่บ้าน

เราพบว่า สำหรับสัตว์เลี้ยง กำลังใจจากเจ้าของถือเป็นส่วนสำคัญในการฟื้นฟูร่างกาย เราจึงออกแบบห้องพักฟื้นที่เจ้าของสามารถนอนเฝ้าไข้สัตว์เลี้ยงได้ โดยออกแบบเตียงให้อยู่ระดับสูงกว่าพื้นเพียงเล็กน้อยเพื่อให้สัตว์เลี้ยงรู้สึกใกล้ชิดกับเจ้าของมากที่สุด

ข้อค้นพบเหล่านี้นอกจากจะทำให้เราเข้าใจการออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมโรงพยาบาลสัตว์มากขึ้นแล้ว ยังทำให้เราเข้าใจการใช้ชีวิตของมนุษย์และเพื่อนที่ดีที่สุดของพวกเขามากยิ่งขึ้นอีกด้วย

Spaces for all the living
Designing Arak Animal Hospital, an all-encompassing veterinary hospital in the heart of Thonglor, has been both an exciting and challenging journey for IF. Beyond accommodating diverse functions—ranging from medical treatment and rehabilitation to supplementary services—this project required us to deeply explore and design an environment that supports both the physical and emotional well-being of animals. Through continuous questioning and discovery, here are the key insights that shaped our approach to this project.

We found that natural light significantly influences the well-being of all living beings. To maximize this, we introduced a central courtyard, allowing daylight to permeate the building and enhancing natural ventilation—contributing to both comfort and energy efficiency. This courtyard also features a pet swimming pool, providing a playful, engaging space for animals while creating a lively atmosphere for visitors.

We found that pets and owners using services like the café, grooming salon, and pet hotel require a different environment than those visiting for medical treatment and rehabilitation. To address this, we zoned these areas separately, ensuring that each space is tailored to its users’ needs.
We found that the sense of comfort begins at first sight. To create a welcoming presence, we designed an arched entrance, subtly carving into the building’s form, and enveloped the façade in soft-toned wooden slats—enhancing warmth and approachability.

We found that pets feel most at ease when they are close to their owners. In response, we designed high-backed seating for waiting areas, strategically placed throughout the space, to provide both privacy and proximity—allowing pets to stay close to their humans.

We found that stark, boxy white rooms can feel intimidating and uninviting. To counter this, we softened the interiors with curved walls, eliminating harsh edges, and incorporated light wood as the primary material—creating a warm, homely atmosphere.

We found that for pets, the presence of their owners plays a vital role in recovery. With this in mind, we designed recovery rooms where owners can stay overnight, with beds positioned just slightly elevated from the ground—allowing pets to feel as close to their humans as possible.

These discoveries not only deepened our understanding of designing veterinary architecture but also offered us profound insights into the relationship between humans and their beloved companions.
